HCSD Teacher of the Year; 50-year public safety career ending; New crosswalk artwork in place

*Chorus teacher Emily Allison of Cherokee Bluff Middle School is the Hall County School District (HCSD) 2025-26 District Teacher of the Year. Allison will now move on to compete for Georgia Teacher of the Year. She will also receive a $10,000 check from the Melvin Douglas and Victoria Kay Ivester Foundation which has provided a check to every HCSD Teacher of the Year since 2019.

*The Barrow County Fire Chief is retiring after 50 years in public safety. Alan Shuman began his public safety career in November 1975 with the Hapeville Fire Department. Then came stints with the Riverdale Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Shuman joined the Barrow County Fire Department in 2012 as a Fire Safety Officer before being named chief. His retirement is effective June 30.

*Gainesville’s latest crosswalk artwork, designed by University of North Georgia student Lainey May and installed by Geveko Markings, is at the entrance to the Greenway segment next to the Midland Amphitheatre & Stage.
