Hall escapee captured in S.C.

Freedom was short-lived for a work release escapee who fled Gainesville Monday afternoon reportedly on a stolen motorcycle.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NEWS RELEASE:

“(Daniel Jesse Bell) was arrested in Oconee County, South Carolina just hours after he fled from his job Monday afternoon…

Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) patrol deputies responded to the job site in the 1200 block
of Industrial Boulevard…to take a report from another work-release inmate who
said…Bell, 39, of Braselton, had stolen his Kawasaki motorcycle. The owner of the
motorcycle said he thought the bike had been stolen around 12:45 p.m. after Bell had returned
from his lunch break. Meanwhile, HCSO work release officials received notification that Bell’s
ankle monitor had been removed at 2:16 p.m.

Hall County Dispatch released information on Bell and the stolen motorcycle via the Georgia
Crime Information Center (GCIC). Deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office located
Bell around 3:45 p.m. and began to pursue him. Once Bell entered South Carolina, the Oconee
County Sheriff’s (SC) Office joined the pursuit.

According to…the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, Bell lost control of the motorcycle and crashed on
Westminster Highway. Bell, along with two deputies, were injured as (he) was taken into
custody…

In Hall County, warrants for Bell have been issued for escape, interference with an electronic
monitoring device and theft by taking, all felony offenses. At the time of his escape, Bell had
been serving time for fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and DUI-drugs/less safe.
