Hail, hail…

There has been no major damage reported in Georgia by the National Weather Service (NWS) following Thursday night’s storms, but chances are some vehicles that were unsheltered were damaged because of some of the hail that accompanied the rain and strong winds. Especially in the Woodstock area, where stones up to two inches in diameter fell, according to a picture posted on social media by the NWS office in Peachtree City.

Hail was also reported in parts of Hall County – South Hall and West Hall for instance, where golf ball size was reported. Mostly, though, it appears to have been pea- and marble-sized.

The top wind gust at the Gainesville airport was 48 mph which was between 7:00 and 8:00. Rainfall totaled about three-quarters-of-an-inch.

Now, we’re bracing for another springtime cold snap. Temperatures by Sunday morning may be approaching freezing in some mountain areas while 35-40 readings are expected elsewhere in north Georgia.
