Gville street closure; 2025 Rubber Duck Derby: WCSO drug bust

*A section of Gainesville’s Valley Road will be closed for several days starting next Monday for water main improvements. The affected part of the road is between Blue Ridge Drive and Crepe Myrtle Lane. Plans call for it to reopen by the end of the week.

*This year’s Rubber Duck Derby is history. A fundraiser held each year on Lake Lanier to benefit the Lanier Boys & Girls Clubs it was held last Saturday. A news release from the club says it helped to raise thousands of dollars but a spokeswoman for the clubs declined to say how much. She did say the owner of the winning duck, who won $10,000, was Richard Bennett but his hometown was not disclosed for “privacy concerns and safety measures.”

*A Cleveland woman has been arrested on drug distribution and other charges after authorities raided her home after receiving information that she was selling drugs there. The White County Sheriff’s Office says Amanda Morris, 42, was found in possession of more than an ounce of meth along with packaging materials and other drug-related items. And once officers got her to jail, more meth was found “on her person.” Morris has been charged with trafficking meth, possession of meth with the intent to distribute, and crossing a guard line in possession of drug-related items.
