Gville serves notice of pending tax increase

Gainesville officials announced Wednesday plans to increase the 2024 property taxes by 5.49 percent over the rollback millage rate.

When the total digest of taxable property in a county is prepared following a reassessment of property values, Georgia law requires that a rollback millage rate must be computed that will produce the same total revenue on the current year’s digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred.

The city council has tentatively approved a millage rate higher than the rollback millage rate, therefore, before a final millage rate is set, Georgia law requires three public hearings on the proposed increase.

They will be held at the Gainesville Administrative Building downtown June 13 at 9:00 a.m. and on June 18 at 6:00 p.m. and July 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Gainesville Justice Center on Queen City Parkway.
