Frank Moore who was a confidante of Jimmy Carter’s during Carter’s time as governor of Georgia and while he was in the White House has died. Moore was 89.
Early in his career, Moore initiated and ran Head Start programs in 14 Georgia counties as part of his work for several state Planning and Development Commissions. In 1972, he became Special Assistant to Gov. Carter for state and city reorganization and later Executive Secretary to the Governor.
When Carter began his run for the Presidency, Moore moved into a variety of leadership roles on his campaign. After Carter’s successful election, he became Assistant to the President for Congressional Liaison, a role he held for the four years of the administration.
Moore died peacefully at home on St. Simons Island May 21.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
