Gainesville Police recently opened investigations into two cases of theft that involved more than $110,000.
In one, a 19-year-old woman reports that between Feb. 23 and May 2, someone accessed one of her accounts and got away with $5,500.
In the other, a Gainesville company says it lost $105,908 through wire fraud. That incident occurred between April 10 and May 5.
They are just two of several cases of fraud that have been reported to the police department since May 1.
And as 97.5 Glory FM reported earlier this year, there’s an “epidemic” of such incidents not only here but around the country – it’s just that triple-digit cases are rare. But the one noted above is not the first to come to the attention of Gainesville Police. EARLIER STORY POSTED FEB. 22: ‘Epidemic’ of scams here and around the country?
