Global outage: Local impact

Thus far, it appears most local governments are operating smoothly despite the global disruption of many services worldwide in not only government but private sectors as well.

Flowery Branch is having problems “with our payment system as the system is down due to the Microsoft glitch,” City Clerk Sheila Cooper said. “We do not have a time frame this will be resolved.”

Flowery Branch is also reporting an apparently unrelated water outage in parts of town. (See separate story.)

Meanwhile, there are also problems at the Hall County Tax Commissioner’s Office. A posting on its website reads: “Global Registration Outage: We are unable to provide motor vehicles services at this time. This includes in-person, kiosks, and e-services.’

A spokeswoman for the City of Gainesville says no services have been affected. “The City of Gainesville has not been impacted. My understanding is the issues are linked to CrowdStrike, which the City does not use,” Christina Santee said.

And aside from those mentioned above that affected the tax commissioner’s office, Hall County spokesman Joy Holmes said the county “thankfully” did not encounter any problems.
