The Gainesville Fire Department (GFD) will conduct field training June 9 by simulating (faking) a commercial fire near downtown Gainesville.
The training is scheduled 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at a vacant warehouse on the corner of Main Street and College Avenue. “While the public may notice emergency vehicles on site and what appears to be smoke emitting from the building, please know the smoke is artificial and that no fire or flames are present,” City Hall spokeswoman Christina Santee-Moss said.
Those traveling in the area are urged to drive carefully and watch for public safety personnel and equipment during this time. A single lane of College Avenue may be closed intermittently throughout the day.
