More than 85 percent of Georgia is now drought-free, according to the latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM). That’s an increase of about 33 percent from just a week ago.
Drought conditions only remain in five counties in the Augusta area, eight in the Savannah area, and eight in south central and southwest Georgia near and along the Florida line.
Just three months ago, only eleven percent of the state was drought-free.
Meanwhile, the level of Lake Lanier increased by a foot to 1072.5 during the past week – and there’s still lots of runoff to coming from mountain areas following the rains of the past few days.
