The drought in Georgia is all but history, with 90 percent of the state now considered drought-free, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM).
As of Thursday, only 18 counties were showing any signs of the drought, three of them in the Augusta area and the others in deep south Georgia – the Valdosta, Moultrie, Tifton, Thomasville, Waycross areas.
Meanwhile, the level of Lake Lanier is1072.2 or three-tenths of a foot lower than last week at this time.
Now, back to the drought for a moment. If you’re curious about the rest of the country, the most drought-free areas are east of the Mississippi and in the Mississippi Valley. West of “Big Muddy”? Not faring very well, especially large parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada.
