Free on bond on drug charges, Gville man back in jail within a week — on drug charges

Derrick Lamar Cleveland, 40, of Gainesville, was arrested twice within a one-week period for drug crimes related to the possession of fentanyl.

HALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“Mr. Cleveland first was arrested…May 1 at a location on Jesse Jewell Parkway as part of a drug investigation. Narcotics investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) found the suspect in possession of 3.5 grams of fentanyl. The drugs were packaged for individual sale. Mr. Cleveland was charged at that time with felony possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute. He posted a bond of $5,700 and was released from the Hall County Jail on May 3.

Because of Mr. Cleveland’s arrest on May 1, the courts determined he was in violation of his probation from a previous arrest and a warrant was issued for his arrest on May 5. The afternoon of May 6, HCSO investigators observed Mr. Cleveland walking along Browns Bridge Road and took him into custody on the probation warrant. During the course of the arrest, they discovered nine (9) grams of fentanyl on his person. He was subsequently charged with felony fentanyl trafficking.

The total street value of the fentanyl for both incidents was estimated at $1,875.

Mr. Cleveland remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond.”
