A Forsyth County animal lost $15,000 recently after a check was mailed to cover the cost of the construction of a new dog shelter
Samantha Shelton, founder and CEO of Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelters, tells WSB Radio, it’s not the first time the shelter and even some customers have been victimized by scammers and thieves.
Shelton said someone intercepted the check and forged a new name on it and then were able to cash it.
In another instance, Shelton said, a man’s whose cat had been missing came by the shelter to pick it up after being told on the phone that it was there but had been in an accident that required treatment and that the cost of the treatment was $2,700. He then wired the individual the money as instructed. But of course when he went to the shelter to pick the animal up, it wasn’t there.
“Well, we just feel at Furkids, we are under an attack,” Shelton said.
