DOJ reports rips Fulton jail conditions; Former NFL player faces Jan. 6 riot charges

*A new report from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has found atrocious conditions at the Fulton County Jail. Kristen Clarke, the U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, said that in 2023 there were 314 stabbings and more than a thousand assaults. She added this rate of violence exceeds what is seen in other cities across the country. The county has already committed on spending up to $300 million to renovating the jail, which they believe will help with some of the issues the Department of Justice found.

*A former NFL player from Savannah is facing U.S. Capitol riot charges. Leander Williams was arrested this week for assault and obstruction for his alleged role in the January 2021 attack in Washington. He’s accused of being one of the first to breach the perimeter of the grounds. Williams played for the Detroit Lions.
