Couple arrested in Gville, charged in drug-related death

A man and woman who were arrested in Gainesville have been charged with the drug-related death of a 33-year-old man in Forsyth County.

On March 3, Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about an overdose.  “The victim, 33-year-old Dean Kratochwill, was located in his vehicle with no pulse and not breathing,” according to the sheriff’s office.  “He was taken to Northside Forsyth where he was pronounced deceased.  The autopsy report confirmed the victim death was caused by toxic levels of Fentanyl in his system.”

Major crimes detectives with the sheriff’s office began investigating, trying to find out where Kratochwill got the Fentanyl and who supplied it to him. “Through the course of the investigation, they identified Hayley Rider as the person who orchestrated the drug deal with her dealer, Terrance Hampton in Gainesville.”  Because the alleged transaction occurred outside of Forsyth County, the GBI’s Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office was asked to join the investigation.

Agents conducted a traffic stop on Rider’s car in Gainesville.  They reported locating several narcotics in the vehicle including the same type of Fentanyl found in Kratochwill’s truck.  Agents also conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that Hampton was in.  They reportedly located Fentanyl on him, and it was the same type that was found in the victim’s truck.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants for both their suspects for Aggravated Involuntary Manslaughter.
