Corps-operated parks on Lanier reportedly closing

Though full details are not known, the Corps of Engineers reportedly confirmed Tuesday to WSB-TV that the parks it operates on Lake Lanier are going to be closed because of staffing shortages and budget cuts. And, separately, county officials in Cumming Tuesday told the county commission the Corps has told them the same thing, according to the Forsyth County News.

According to the website for the Corps’ Mobile District Office, the Corps operates 37 parks and campgrounds, and 10 marinas on Lanier.

A Hall County spokeswoman, Joy Licciardi, said county-operated parks will remain open. And county officials in Forsyth County have said the same thing about parks Forsyth operates.
