11:15 P.M. WEDNESDAY UPDATE:
A state lawmaker from Forsyth County said late Wednesday the Corps of Engineers has agreed to keep some parks on Lake Lanier open. This came within hours of an announcement from the Corps acknowledging the parks and those on other lakes it manages downstream would be closed because of staffing shortages and budget cuts.
“They have informed us they will be opening all of the Lake Lanier boat ramps, and will temporarily close 11 recreation sites, so about half of what was planned,” State Sen. Greg Dolezal (R-Cumming) said.

The Corps of Engineers Wednesday morning officially confirmed, 24 hours after the rumor began circulating, that the parks it operates on Lake Lanier are being closed. The Corps’ statement also says Lanier is not the only lake it operates that this action will affect. (County operated parks are, however, not affected: Forsyth, Hall lake parks open
Due to staffing shortages, the Mobile District is temporarily closing several recreational parks to prioritize critical operations and ensure visitor safety.

- Lake Sidney Lanier
- Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint Lakes
- Black Warrior & Tombigbee Lakes
- Okatibbee Lake
- Walter F. George Lake
- Lake George W. Andrews
