Clyde logs two key wins in final tax bill, votes for it

9th District Rep. Andrew Clyde, who represents a part of Hall County, and other GOP holdouts ended up voting Thursday in favor of President Trump’s tax bill after initially saying they opposed it. Rich McCormick (R-Suwanee), whose district also includes a portion of Hall, also voted for the bill.

In the end, Clyde’s gun rights proposals won favor in the final version of the bill. The package would eliminate a $200 tax on gun silencers that has existed since Congress passed the National Firearms Act in 1934. The elimination of the tax is supported by the NRA.

The group Giffords, which works to reduce gun violence, opposed the changes, saying silencers make it more difficult to recognize the sound of gunfire and locate the source of gunshots, impairing the ability of law enforcement to respond to active shooters.

Georgia’s delegation was split along party lines when the final vote was taken – with all Republicans voting “yes” and all Democrats voting “no.”

Clyde (R-Jackson County) took to X, formerly Twitter, after the vote to comment on the legislation. “I’m encouraged that we’ve strengthened and advanced the One Big Beautiful Bill, and I look forward to working toward getting this historic legislation to President Trump’s desk…”
