The Gainesville area wasn’t the only place in Georgia (see separate story) where overnight storms Saturday downed trees and powerlines and caused power outages and some property damage. Metro Atlanta suffered as well as did other parts of the state.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that a tornado, brandishing winds up to 80 mph, struck Fayette County, and officials are also surveying Coweta and Meriweather Counties for storm damage. Atlanta fire investigators, meanwhile, are working to see if a fire early Sunday is related to downed power lines.
As of Sunday afternoon, there had been no reports of injuries.
