Apalachee payback; Gville names scholarship winners

*(GEORGIA NEWS NETWORK) – Payback this weekend from Apalachee High School students and staff. Apalachee opening its doors Saturday to thank the Barrow Co. community for its support after the mass shooting last year, which took the lives of four people and left several others wounded. Saturday’s Apalachee Thank You included food trucks, bounce houses, and Pro Football Hall of Famers shaking hands. 

*Jackson Daniel, Kylianne Brown, and Madison Chastain are this year’s recipients of the Gainesville Chicken Festival Scholarships. Daniel is the first-place winner of a $2,000 scholarship and Brown and Chastain are the second- and third-place winners of scholarships worth $1,500 each.

*The city has also announced the 2025 recipients of You’re the Reason Scholarships. Grand-prize recipient Madeline Martin took home $2,000. Second-place winner Kaylana Curry took home $1,500. Receiving $1,000 were Tristan Alexander Hill, Madison Ford, Antonio Hunt Jr., Jakob Lunsford Sr., Kasiya Moore, Ashley Garbacz and Katelyn Seabolt. The scholarship fund was established in 2011 by city employees and enables Gainesville to offer scholarships to children of city employees.
