Buford woman jailed following fiery weekend crash in S. Hall

A Buford woman involved in a fiery weekend traffic collision on Friendship Road remained in the Hall County Jail late Tuesday morning, facing charges of DUI and serious injury by vehicle.

HALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“Just before 1 a.m. Sunday…deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Friendship Road and Hog Mountain Road.

They found one of the vehicles, occupied by Mariethen G. Aul, 39, on its roof and on fire. An investigator with HCSO’s Accident Investigation Unit (AIU) and an officer with the Flowery Branch Police Department were on patrol in the area and quickly responded to the scene as well, assisting Ms. Aul from the burning vehicle while other responding units extinguished the fire. EMS arrived at the scene to assess Ms. Aul and two occupants of the other vehicle.

The preliminary investigation by AIU determined Ms. Aul was traveling southbound on Hog Mountain Road when she ran the red light at the intersection with Friendship Road, striking the second vehicle, which was traveling westbound on Friendship Road, on the passenger side. The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries in the collision, while the passenger suffered a broken ankle. Ms. Aul was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for medical clearance prior to her arrest.

Ms. Aul currently remains in custody at the Hall County Jail on charges of serious injury by vehicle (felony), DUI and failure to obey traffic control device.”
