The battle over who has the better plan for a major league hockey team in Georgia between Alpharetta and Cumming intensified a bit recently.
The city of Alpharetta has okayed a feasibility study to see if the old North Point Mall site could be the place for a National Hockey League (NHL) arena.
Meanwhile, just up the road, plans continue for a two-billion-dollar mixed-use development in Cumming which could include an 18,500-seat arena for an NHL team.
The “elephant in the room” in all this? The NHL has, thusfar, made no plans to return to the Atlanta area. The last franchise, the Thrashers, left town 15 years ago and moved to Winnepeg.
