Atlanta BOE cutting 100+ jobs; Juveniles facing 134 charges; Mayor pro tem arrested

*More than 100 jobs will be eliminated following the Atlanta Public Schools Board of Education’s approval of a $1.3 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year.  Following the approval of the budget on Monday, school board officials said they are taking a “back to basics’ approach,” by eliminating 135 positions within the district’s Central Office. Atlanta News First reports that it’s unknown what positions would be cut or when it will happen.

*Three juveniles are facing 134 felony charges in two west Georgia jurisdictions. Troup County Sheriff’s investigators say the juveniles, aged 14 and 15, were arrested for their involvement in 52 felonies, including theft, entering auto, and firearms charges. Investigators in Hogansville, meanwhile, say they are collaborating with other agencies to link the juveniles to 84 additional felony charges inside the city limits, and some stolen property has been recovered. Most of the victims reported the incidents occurred when their cars were unlocked.  

*A south Georgia mayor pro tem is facing criminal charges. WALB reports Jeren Fullmore was arrested at the city hall in Pearson Monday for burglary and theft by taking. He’s accused of stealing documents from the police department. Fullmore says the arrest was politically motivated.
