The next risk for severe weather (and rain) across north Georgia is from late Friday night through Saturday.
“We could see an initial line of strong to severe storms move into far NW Georgia after midnight Friday night, weakening as it moves through north Georgia by Saturday morning,” the weather service advisory says. “Another round of storms may develop across the area on Saturday afternoon and evening.”
The advisory goes on to say there is still a lot of uncertainty in the overall threat at this time, but damaging winds, large hail, and a brief tornado would be possible if conditions materialize.
According to a map outlining the expected intensity of the storms, the leading edge cuts through Georgia on a line from Toccoa to Gainesville to near Carrollton.
All of this will follow daytime highs Friday in the Gainesville that are expected to be in the upper 80s to near 90.
