Additional charge filed in Lula shooting

A Gainesville man faces an additional criminal charge in connection to an incident that occurred earlier this month outside of Lula Laundromat on Main Street in downtown Lula.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“Initially, John David Wilson, 52, was charged on May 16 with criminal damage to property in the second degree after he broke the window of a vehicle parked outside the laundromat.

The vehicle owner, who was a customer at the business, was able to drive away from the scene and report the incident to Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies. At the time, deputies determined Mr. Wilson and another man (not the victim) had been involved in an argument behind the building. After his initial arrest, Mr. Wilson posted a bond of $2,950 and was released from custody later the same day.

The case then was assigned to HCSO’s property crimes unit for further investigation. The investigator was able to obtain surveillance footage from the laundromat. The video showed Mr. Wilson, armed with a small caliber handgun, fire once in the direction of the victim’s vehicle. When the victim attempted to run back into the laundromat, Mr. Wilson fired at the victim. The victim was not struck by the gunfire.

After obtaining the new evidence in the case, the investigator charged Mr. Wilson with one count of felony aggravated assault. Mr. Wilson was arrested on Friday, May 23, at a location on Main Street in Lula. He remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond.”
