The City of Gainesville is reporting a 6,000-gallon sewage spill which entered Lake Lanier.
It was located and stopped Tuesday night after an alarm sounded at a sewer pumping station. The spill was near the 500 block of Bayberry Crossing.
CITY OF GAINESVILLE NEWS RELEASE:
“The station is under renovation and one of the contractor’s pumps malfunctioned and caused the discharge. The pumps at the station were manually started and flow restored by midnight…
The area of the spill was assessed and no dead or stressed aquatic life were found. All field parameters for water quality were within state water quality standards.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division was
notified Wednesday and signs were posted.”
